More than 500 people enjoyed Memorial Day weekend at the first annual Studio City Community Barbecue and Roundup sponsored by the Studio City Residents Association (SCRA).  Designed in response to the community’s interest in celebrating the quality of life in Studio City, the Roundup was also a fundraiser for two affiliate organizations of the SCRA, Studio City Beautification and Save LA River – Open Space (formerly

Held at the private Hirsh Ranch on Laurel Canyon, the family-friendly event featured a variety of games, including sack, three-legged races and egg on a spoon races; livemusic from four different bands; line dancing instruction; and bouncies for the younger kids. Guests enjoyed Captain BBQ’s championship cooking under the shade of the oak trees on the five-acre property.

Los Angeles County Supervisor President Zev Yaroslavsky joined the crowd, as did Paul Koretz (now City Councilmember for District 5), Board of Education Member Tamar Galatzan and representatives from the offices of State Senator Fran Pavley (Aron Miller) and City Councilmembers Wendy Greuel (Evan Roosevelt) and Jack Weiss (Joan Pelico).

According to SCRA President, Alan Dymond, the Roundup was a huge success and will likely return next year. “The Roundup was driven by a team of hard-working volunteers, who want to give back to our community,” Dymond said.  “We are so pleased with the numerous positive comments we have received from neighbors and friends who had a great time.  Look for even more great community events from the SCRA in the future.”
