Henry’s Farmers Market, a 66-year-old family of Southern California stores, is opening its 32nd location in Burbank on Wednesday, September 30, located at 1011 North San Fernando Blvd.  The San Fernando Valley is also home to a Henry’s in Woodland Hills.

The store officially opens at 9 a.m., giving a pre-selected shopping bag of free groceries to the first 200 people who arrive (with no purchase necessary).

“In these tough economic times, that’s sure to attract a good number of people who need some help,” says Janet Little, Henry’s Farmers Market’s nutritionist and spokesperson.

Grand opening ceremonies will take place beginning at 8:45 a.m. with a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by the public and executives from Henry’s, as well as local civic officials, all with official proclamations.  Also, on hand will be Sarah, The Cheese Lady, who will carve a 30-pound wheel of Wisconsin English Hollow Cheddar into fall pumpkin-themed artwork.

If your first name is Henry (and you show identification) you will be treated to a free deli sandwich that day. Also, shoppers will have the opportunity to register in advance for a free nutritional seminar presented by Little on October 6, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., where they can learn how proper nutrition, supplementation and stress reduction techniques can protect you against colds and flu. Space is limited and reservations are recommended. All participants will receive a $5-off coupon for Henry’s products.

Little describes shopping at the friendly, neighborhood Henry’s Farmers Markets as “reminiscent of produce stands and corner butcher shops of the 1950s.”

” We’re proud to support local California area farmers, fishermen and suppliers whenever possible,” says Little. “It promotes sustainability and enables us to offer our customers the freshest and most practically-priced products available.”

“Henry’s has also always been devoted to partnering with nonprofit organizations in the community,” she adds, explaining that as a transitional store between farm and supermarket, Henry’s offers customers one of the largest full-service healthy-living departments around that includes nutritional and natural body care products to fit every lifestyle.

Henry Boney established his family-owned business in 1943 in San Diego.  Henry’s has been named the “best health food store” by readers of the San Diego Union-Tribune and the “best place to buy produce” by readers of The Orange County Register. Recently, Henry’s was named as the “best value” for quality food by Our City San Diego Food Lover’s Guide.

Other recent honors for Henry’s include it being named as “favorite natural food store” by the Daily News’ Best 2009 Readers’ Choice issue (8/27/09), as well as Henry’s Produce Director receiving national recognition as “Retailer of the Year” this October, by the Produce Merchandiser magazine.
