Carrie Ann Inaba of ABC’s Dancing with the Stars will help The Rescue Train host its 4th Annual 5k Run/Walk (3.1 miles) on Sunday, October 4 at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena. The event will raise funds for seven Los Angeles animal rescues, all non-profit 501c3 organizations, who together help save thousands of animal lives. Registration begins at 7 am and the race promptly kicks off at 8:30am.

Those benefiting from the event are the following non-profit rescue organizations: The Rescue Train, Best Friends Animal Society, Animal Alliance, A Dog’s Life Rescue, Stray Cat Alliance, Four-Legged Friends Foundation, and Molly’s Mutts & Meows. Each year these groups combined, rescue and find homes for over 2,000 abandoned Southland dogs and cats, animals that most likely would otherwise have lost their lives.
Lisa Young, Director of The Rescue Train, explains the added significance to this year’s event: “Due to the economic crisis our donations are down 40%. This means less dogs and cats can be saved. Because of foreclosures, the city shelters are in crisis and flooded with animals – which, in turn, has dramatically increased the euthanasia rate. The animals need us now more than ever.”
Carrie Ann Inaba is passionate about the cause of unwanted pets in our community. “The solution, of course, is for everyone to spay and neuter their animals and eliminate the overcrowding that causes so many to end up in city shelters. But until we can make that a reality, it is our responsibility to care for all of the animals. That is why events like these are so vital.”
In addition to the 5K run/walk, Race for the Rescues will also feature: Walk of Paws – A celebrity art auction featuring unique pieces created by celebrities and their pets; a 1-mile non-competitive Kids Fun Run; Pet Adoption Event & Fashion Show;Pasadena Humane Society/SPCA and Los Angeles Animal Services adoption; Silent Auction; Kids’ Face Painting; Pet Psychic; Dog Training Demonstration, Fun Prizes and more.
