On November 9, 1989 the Berlin Wall came tumbling down after nearly three decades keeping East and West Berliners apart. East Germany’s Communist rulers gave permission for gates along the Wall to be opened after hundreds of people gathered on crossing points. Ecstatic crowds immediately began to clamber on top of the Wall and hack large chunks out of the 28-mile barrier. It had been erected in 1961 on the orders of East Germany’s former leader Walter Ulbricht stop people leaving for West Germany. This was the end of the Cold War, so we celebrate with a cold drink!

Harvey Wallbanger

2 ounces vodka

8 ounces orange juice

1 ounce Galliano herbal liqueur

In two tall glasses pour the vodka and the orange juice. Over ice. Float the Galliano on top and garnish with orange slices. For a festive non- alcoholic version simply fill a tall glass with ice pour in orange juice, float ½ ounce of grenadine and garnish with orange slices.
