Lemons are so abundant in Southren California that I am making lemon pasta, lemon chicken, lemon crème brulee and I am even making lemon drop cocktails. Invented on the West Coast in the 1970’s, Lemon Drops have been a favorite martini for all of these years.
Served as a signature cocktail at many of Hollywood’s biggest events, Oprah even created a version using fresh mint for her Legends Ball. While I have sipped them with some of my male friends they really are kind of a ladies drink so it is a great excuse for really fun presentations starting with the glass. http://www.swankmartini.com/martini_glasses.php has some of the most festive and fun cocktail glasses that I have ever seen. Superfine sugar is the best for rimming the glass or you can use some of the fun spring colored sugars. I like to float a lemon twist or you can float edible spring flowers.
Like most martinis it is an alcohol heavy drink so if you prefer, shake some lemon-aid in a cool martini glass. Grab some of your friends and enjoy this lemony taste of the season!
THE LEMON DROP MARTINI
