The 40th anniversary of Earth Day is April 22 and is now celebrated in over 190 countries by one billion people. Founded in 1970 by U.S. Senator Gaylord Nelson as an environmental teach-in at colleges across America and organized by Denis Hayes, it led to the creation of the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the passage of the Clean Air Act, the Clean Water Act, and the Endangered Species Act. From one day of awareness, it is leading to a global lifestyle change—and an opportunity for people, businesses and organizations to join together to create a green economy.
Check out some of the events being held in and around the 818 on April 22 and through the weekend.
