Rock ‘N Crawl:
Gardening the Metro Redline

Los Angeles Guerilla Gardening is taking over the Metro Redline on April 24. Their mission? To create gardens all over Los Angeles. The Rock ‘N Crawl starts at the Universal Metro Stop at 1 pm. The train leaves at 2:05 pm. There will be an after party at Bar 107 at 7:30 pm. They will be gardening/weeding/cleaning at nine metro red line stops with live bands at each stop. Tickets at $15 today and $20 tomorrow, plus the purchase of an all day Metro Pass ($5/$1.80 (senior). To purchase tickets and get the band list, go to laguerrillagardening.org/earthday.htm

Recycle/Reuse/Resurrect Art Show

Studio City resident Kim O’Neal is having a homegrown art show and sale  on Saturday April 24, featuring her Kwiltz —quilts made from old tee shirts. Got a bunch of old tee shirts from concerts and places visited that you can’t depart with? Kim will turn those shirts into a quilt for about $100 depending on size requested. Some Kwiltz will be for sale on Saturday— she will take orders for others. The show will also feature art projects done by her sons Trevor and William O’Neal, including paintings, drawings and mosaics. Kim has also made curtains from ribbon, as well as cinnamon roll and frozen juice can lids. The exhibit is at 12752 Moorpark St. in Studio City, from 1 pm till 7pm. The 1st 8th Annual Grilled Cheese Invitational is back this Saturday, April 24. It’s known as the largest, craziest, and most exciting Grilled Cheese cooking contest in the country. The goal is to find the perfect grilled cheese “sammich,” so says Tim Walker, an artist in downtown LA who started it in 2003 as a competition between friends. It’s now become a national movement dedicated to the art of Grilled Cheese, where amateur and professional chefs to compete side-by-side in the hopes of becoming a true Grilled Cheese Champion.

Various vendors to sell grilled cheese sandwiches for $2-3, as well as 10,000 free sandwiches provided by Tillamook, who is sponsoring the event. Hightlights will include: Amateur and Professional Grilled Cheese Competitions. Cheesy samples (free and for purchase), Cooking demo with Eric Greenspan (The Foundry chef-owner) and Mark Peel (Campanile chef-owner), Beer Garden featuring Lagunitas, Stone and New Belgium

UNIQUE LOS ANGELES is a one of a kind two-day shopping event showcasing independent design talent. It’s held twice a year (once in May and once in December) and brings together the best in local fashion, art, stationery, home accessories, edibles and more.

The brainchild of Sonja Rasula, the event is designed to foster and support the creative community, while also stimulating the local economy (all offerings are made in America). Over 300 vendors are showcased. Each had to go through an intense application and jury process to analyze how each fits.

In addition to the vendors, there will be an Amoeba Music Pop-Up Shop, two cafes with food from the Flying Pig, Fresser and Coolhaus trucks, as well as other gourmet restaurants.
