Calling all girlfriends (and others who need gift and party ideas) — it’s blow drys and cocktails at the new Dry Bar in Studio City opening Thursday, September 23. This is the second location for this innovative “blow dry” only concept that opened its first location in Brentwood in March of this year. There are four more locations slated through the beginning of next year.

It’s a simple concept with a tag line — “No cuts, no color. Just blowouts. $35.”  Pick your choice of style and a complementary cocktail.  Also, there’s a flatscreen TV to watch if you don’t feel like being chatty. There’s a range of styles to choose — or you are welcome to order your own concoction. Most popular styles on the blow dry menu are: Straight Up (Dry Bar’s signature), the Manhattan (sleek and smooth), Southern Comfort (big hair with volume), Cosmopolitan (lots of soft, loose curls), the Mai Tai (messy, beach hair) and Shirley Temple (pre-teen blowout). Add $10 for a Floater — a ten minute head massage. If you want something a little extra, like an Uptini (updo) — it’s $70.

The Dry Bar is the brainchild of Alli Webb, a self professed curly-haired girl, who started her career in the fashion industry working for Nicole Miller. She went on the open Nicole Miller boutiques in Florida. Among the highest grossing in the nation, Webb sold the boutiques in order to pursue hairstyling, studying with Toni & Guy and working under the late John Sahag.

Alli stopped working in a salon in 2005 when she started a family, but continued to blow dry people at her home. Her clients multiplied, so she decided to open a brick and mortar facility — and the idea for Dry Bar was born. Now expanding as a franchise, Entrepreneur Magazine just named it as one of the best new 100 ideas of 2010.

Dry Bar has some tempting “Bar Fly” and “Bar Tab” membership deals that’ll save cash if you are a blow dry devotee. Also available are private parties where  hors d’ouevres, drinks and decorations are provided. And there’s no slouching in the mixology department as a professional sommelier is the “Spirit Director” for the shops.
