December 1 and 2 brings some holiday shopping fun, a clean car deal, an evening of rock n’ roll nostalgia for a cause, and some inspiring short story readings at the Skirball Cultural Center.  That’s some pretty diverse happenings in and around the 818 mid-week, I’d say.

CLEAN CAR RIVALRY: Wear a USC or UCLA shirt or hat to the Fashion Square Sherman Oaks Car Wash on December 1 or 2 and get a wash for $2 ($12.99 value)!

The Rolling Stone Covers book signing at the Sherman Oaks office of Linda Toth, DDS by Baron Wolman benefits the Sheryl Weisman Lymphoma Research Foundation.

ROCK N’ ROLL FOR A CAUSE: A highly unlikely coupling of rock n’ roll and orthodontia are mixing on Thursday, December 2  from 6-9pm when photography legend Baron Wolman will be signing copies of his book,  The Rolling Stone Covers, at the Sherman Oaks office of Linda Toth, DDS.  The event is presented by the Duncan Miller Gallery.  Wolman was Rolling Stone Magazine’s first photographer and the official photographer at Woodstock. His lens captured the rock explosion of the 1960′s. Among those he photographed were George Harrison, Janis Joplin, the Rolling Stones, Frank Zappa, the Who, Jimi Hendrix, Joan Baez, Iggy Pop, Pink Floyd, Bob Dylan, the Grateful Dead,  Jim Morrison and Ike & Tina Turner. This very special evening, which will benefit the Sheryl Weisberg  Lymphoma  Research Foundation, will include a wine bar, refreshments and a silent auction. Original photographs will also be on display.  The Office of Linda Toth, DDS is located at 13367 Ventura Blvd., Sherman Oaks, CA  818.788.5363.

Seventeen stores open until 8pm with 15% discounts, refreshments and fun.

BOULEVARD HOLIDAY SHOPPING SPECIAL: Eighteen stores on Ventura Boulevard between Vantage and Laurel Grove in Studio City will be participating in Boulevard Shopping Day on Thursday, December 2.  This special all day event which includes extended hours until 8 pm, special promotions, refreshments and a 15% discount. The event was organized by Mimi & Hy and Soto as a way to promote local shopping and to give back some holiday cheer to Studio City.  Here’s the list of participating stores: 1928, Bedfellows Furniture, Bree Salon, Danielli, Dari, Dungarees, Elahn, Filigree, Indexx, Lush Shoes, Mimi & Hy the Shoppe, Rob B Concept Salon, Sara’s Lingerie, Soto, Spray Di Sole, T-Man Tattoo, Valley’s Gem Jewelry and Barini Leather.

FEAR OF FLYING NO MORE: The Skirball Cultural Center is hosting the Moment Magazine Short Fiction Contest Awards Ceremony featuring guest judge Erica Jong on Thursday, December 2, 7:30 pm. It’s a free event, but advance tickets recommended. This special literary evening is honoring the winners of Moment Magazine’s Karma Foundation Short Fiction Contest. The story subjects range from contemporary Israel to Holocaust-era Europe and nineteenth century immigration.  Among those reading their award-winning works is Studio City resident, Racelle Rosett Schaefer.  A book signing and reception follow the event. 2701 North Sepulveda Blvd., Los Angeles.
