Vietnamese food with a western twist? This is exactly what you’ll find at Bun Me, a newly opened, family owned Vietnamese restaurant in Northridge. Nestled in a strip mall on the corner of Reseda and Vincennes, it’s the perfect fusion of east meets west.

Step into the restaurant and you’re greeted by Celeste, the friendly and helpful cashier/hostess. She walks new customers through the menu and explains each dish. She even recommends a couple of specials and dishes for first timers to try. Bun Me’s featured item is, of course, bahn mi–a Vietnamese sandwich on a baguette stuffed with select meats, pickled carrots and daikon, cucumbers, cilantro, chili peppers, and mayonnaise. They offer grilled lemongrass chicken, pork, ribeye steak, tofu, or the deli special of pate, pork roll, and char sui (bbq) pork, as meats for their sandwiches.

Biting into a Bun Me sandwich is like biting into the best sandwich you’ve ever tasted. The freshly baked baguette is crunchy yet buttery on the inside. Combine that with the fresh, crunchy vegetables, and the juicy, perfectly flavored grilled pork, with the mayonnaise binding it all together and you have yourself one truly tasty sandwich experience.

But that’s not all Bun Me has to offer. They also serve vermicelli, Vietnamese noodles, and rice dishes with vegetables, and your choice meats. Appetizers such as spring rolls, summer rolls, and vegetarian tofu summer rolls are also available. To wash down all that yummy goodness, they serve various tea drinks with flavors like mango, lychee, passion fruit and peach. The traditional Vietnamese iced coffee is on their drink menu.

In addition to their regular menu, Bun Me offers a chef’s menu, changed weekly. The chef’s menu includes additional meat options for the sandwiches such as popcorn chicken, and cheese steak. They also serve up their version of pho, a Vietnamese soup dish with vermicelli noodles, onions, bean sprouts, and their choice of meats. This delicious broth is even rumored to help fight the common cold!
