My father passed when I was in my early 20’s and not a Fathers Day goes by that I don’t really miss him, yet as my heart still heals and I still have moments where I grieve, I mostly think of all the crazy, fun wonderful memories and the time we spent together sharing many of life’s lessons.
My dad was more of a scotch man, but he did enjoy good bourbon! I am sure he would have truly enjoyed a bottle of Basil Hayden’s Bourbon. This spicy, warm yet super smooth bourbon uses twice as much rye as traditional bourbon. Chicago’s famed mixoligist, Shawn Thompson, created a unique version of the iconic Old Fashioned putting his twist on the cocktail’s traditional ingredients. This recipe combines Demerara sugar with blood orange, a rich Griottine Cherry and spicy Basil Hayden’s, for a refined cocktail bursting with flavor. Add a few dashes of bitters and a splash of soda water and you’ve mixed up an Old Fashioned that will be sure to please your papa! Today I celebrate all fathers and Jack Kenneally I raise my glass to you! Cheers!
