Shrek and Food Trucks: Bring the family to Genesta Park in Encino on Saturday, September 10 for an evening of fun. Volunteer on 9/11: This Sunday marks the 10th anniversary of 9/11. More than 1 million Americans are committed to participate in a National Day of Service and Remembrance. Volunteers will participate in a range of service projects from assembling care packages and writing thank you letters to soldiers, to preparing food for the homeless or revitalizing a community garden. Ten years later, we remember.

9/11 Memorial Sherman Oaks: Pay tribute to the victims, families and all first responders. Join LA City Controller Wendy Greuel, LAPD Chaplin Ron Carter, LAFD Ret. John Keys on bagpipes and various LAFD Speakers at 7 p.m. on Sunday.  Meet at the 9/11 Memorial Fountain in front of the Los Angeles Fire Department Fire Station 88, 5101 North Sepulveda Blvd. Sherman Oaks. Free and the public is welcome.

9/11 Memorial Noho: Councilmember Tom LaBonge will mark the 10th Anniversary of September 11 with a memorial ceremony in his district.The solemn remembrance will take place at the 9/11 Memorial in North Hollywood Park. Gathering starts at 4 p.m.; Ceremony runs from 5 p.m. – 6 :30 p.m.  Others participating includethe Los Angeles Fire Department, Los Angeles Police Department  and a K-9 unit, H/LABT, a Color Guard, Walter Reed Middle Sshool Girls Choir, the release of doves, bagpipeer, poetry reading, music, candle lighting, community circle and more. 11455 Magnolia Boulevard, North Hollywood.(southside of park on Tujunga)

Interfaith Choral Concert: The Valley Interfaith Choir unites members from Reform and Conservative Synagogues, Catholic, Protestant and Mormon Churches, and more, directed by Noreen Green of Valley Beth Shalom. Special guest appearance by Mark Kashper, second violinist of the LA Philharmonic. Several important speakers will punctuate this event.  Sunday, 7 p.m.- 10 p.m., Temple Judea, 5429 Lindley Ave., Tarzana.

If you love lobster, you might want to take a drive to The 15th Annual Original Long Beach Lobster Festival September 9-11. Lobster dinners include steamed lobsters, melted butter dipping sauce, coleslaw, roll and watermelon. The event will also feature entertainment, art and craft booths and more. Escape the heat and go to Santa Monica this weekend for some finger-lickin’ kick-your-boots-up fun at the Third Annual L.A. BBQ Festival,sponsored by DrinkEatPlay.
