Tasty Tidbits: Restaurant News in the San Fernando Valley

Studio City, just east of Radford Avenue on Ventura Boulevard is fast becoming prime real estate for the expansion of out of the area restaurants with gourmet casual fare mixed with beer and cocktails. The recently opened Black Market Liquor Bar, from the owners of Hollywood’s Happy Ending Bar and Sherman Oaks’ Local Peasant, will be followed by Century City’s Take A Bao with its opening set for the week of Halloween; Hollywood’s  Stout Burgers and Beer is under construction with an opening early next year; and Australia’s number one chain pizzeria, Crust, is coming to the U.S. and making one of its first stops here in the 818—and only a few doors to the east of Pepe’s NY Pizza.

 

Ombra is offering a special three course dinner on Monday evenings.

Ombra in Studio City is welcoming the fall season with a Notte Slow dinner on Monday evenings.  The three course menus are designed to celebrate slow foods and priced at $35 per person.  The meal can be  paired with a $12 carafe on Monday evenings.  The menu will change weekly, but a recent dinner included: tuna prosciutto with capers, onions, and olive oil; homemade maloreddus (dumpling shaped pasta) with sausage and saffron; and for dessert, espresso panna cotta with nutella sauce.

Also in Studio City, Ralphs at Ventura and Coldwater is having a grand opening to celebrate the remodel this weekend starting on Friday. It’ll be a sample-icious good time with lots of tasty bites being handed out through Sunday. Also, don’t miss some great specials, especially wine for 30 percent off.

Cafe Bizou in Sherman Oaks has extended their Dine LA menu through the end of October with a three course prix fixed $16 lunch and $26 dinner.  However, unlike DineLA, no credit for American Express will be given.

The Olive Vineyard in Agoura Hills is introducing a new line of gourmet pastas and olives, including: tomato and basil penne, chipotle pepper linguine, porcini mushroom linguine; stuffed olives include herb and garlic cheese, sicilian spiced pitted olives, feta-oregano cheese along and the parmesan-asiago dip/spread. Products can also be ordered online.

Head over to Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf for their new fall cappucino flavors — salted caramel and cinnamon mocha.

Chipotle Mexican Grill will raise up to $1 million to benefit family farmers through its annual “Boorito” Halloween fundraiser. Visit any Chipotle restaurant on October 31 from 6 p.m. to close dressed in a costume inspired by the family farm and you will be treated to a burrito, order of tacos, salad, or burrito bowl for only $2.  Chipotle will donate proceeds (up to $1 million) to Farm Aid and the Chipotle Cultivate Foundation.

Speaking of Chipotle, the popular chain is opening three more locations in the 818— the Tarzana Walk area (18700 block of Ventura Blvd.), the former Keyboard Concepts Piano store space at the northeast corner of Burbank and Van Nuys, and at the southwest corner of Victory and Canoga in Warner Center.
