Big Sunday: The largest community service in the nation is happening this weekend.

FRIDAY-SUNDAY

Big Sunday:  It’s the largest community service regional event in the nation this Friday through Sunday. There are over 500 different projects from Solvang to San Diego to join for an hour, two or a full day, with most in Los Angeles County. Over 50, 000 people are expected participate. 2012 Saint Francis de Sales Annual School Fair:  “It’s Outta This World!” is the theme for this weekend’s event being held Friday through Sunday—also known as the “The Biggest Little Fair in the Valley.” A big highlight will be happening Saturday evening when Monkee Mickey Dolenz opens for  Mark McGrath and Sugar Ray.  Also, don’t miss live music acts, a pyrotechnics show on Friday and Saturday nights, a variety of delicious foods, games and rides. Don’t miss the silent/live auction with hundreds of items available to the highest bidders.  Free admission and parking. Cost for rides and food. For further info click here.

Clean Up Sherman Oaks: The Sherman Oaks Beautification Committee is teaming with Big Sunday repainting the benches in the Village At Sherman Oaks this Saturday. Refreshments, camaraderie and community service credit! Wear comfortable clothes. Bring painting tools or use ours. Email sobc1@yahoo.com, or call Leslie Elkan at 818-326-0273, with any questions. Green City Fair at TreePeople: It’s a a free family-friendly event with food,  entertainment, forest scavenger hunts for the whole family, upcycling crafts with the reDiscover Center, live music, eco-friendly cooking demonstrations, prizes and giveaways. Also, learn how to implement sustainable solutions at home, work and in your community to grow a greener city. Saturday, May 5, 10 am – 3 pm., Coldwater Canyon Park. Pre-registration is encouraged for the 16 free, interactive workshops offered throughout the day on topics including Rain Gardens for LA, Native Plants for the LA Garden, Fruit Tree Grafting, Energy Upgrade California, Renter DIY Green Living…and many more. Fashion and Beauty Show: Get down to Westfield Sherman Oaks on Saturday for a fashion show, free beauty makeovers, free manicures, free blow dry bar, panel of fashion experts and live entertainment!   The day will kick off with a fashion show at 1 p.m.  featuring mothers, daughters, and grandmothers. Following the runway show, indulge in beauty treatments and interactive lounges promoting health, beauty and fashion. Saturday, May 5, 1 p.m.-6 p.m., Westfield Fashion Square, 14006 Riverside Drive Sherman Oaks.

Free Kids Club Event at Whole Foods Market TarzanaDo you have kids between the ages of 2 1/2 and 5? Bring them to Whole Foods Tarzana on Saturday, May 5 from 1 p.m.-2 p.m. for some fun springtime crafts with Caterpillar Cottage Preschool program director and founder, Heather Malley. 28th Annual Topanga Blues Festival: It’s the annual fundraising festival for the Southern California Blues Society (SCBS) under the trees. It promises to be a great day of blues featuring Chuck Willis, Lynwood Slims Blues Band, Gregg Wright and Sean Lane. Sunday, May 6, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., Will Geer Theatricum Botanicum, 1419 N. The Help Group’s 3rd Annual Special Needs Resource Fair:  This  is an opportunity for parents and professionals to discover the children’s resources Los Angeles has to offer its Special Needs Community. Meet, Eat and Drink Book Launch with Gwen Kenneally: Join Huqua Press to celebrate My Daily Find’s resident chef  and her “Sweet and Savory” Cookbook. Taste of the Eastside:  It’s the second year celebrating the delicious and diverse cuisine from the chefs, restaurants and beer and wine purveyors of Eastside neighborhoods including Silver Lake, Echo Park, Atwater, Los Feliz, Eagle Rock, Highland Park and beyond.
