Vegas in Noho:  Tonight is the opening night gala at the El Portal Theatre in Noho which is channeling a Vegas -like production with  Gary Peterson’s Supernatural Magic Show starring Peterson and MAVI,  directed by Tony Clark .  Encompassing all elements of professional magic, the show has close-up and slight-of-hand to large scale, “Vegas-size” illusions. The show also features the talents of International German Opera Singer MAVI, the award winning Magician Danny Cole and Scott Land’s world renowned Marionettes, for an unforgettable evening of fun for the whole family. No Way Around But ThroughScott Caan (Hawaii Five-O, Entourage) wrote and stars in this dark, thoughtful, quirky romantic comedy  at the Falcon Theatre which also stars Melanie Griffith (Working Girl), along with Bre Blair (Make It Or Break, CIS),  Robyn Cohen (Gravity, The Life Aquatic) and  Val Lauren (24, Sal), who directs as well.  Top flight acting all around.  Runs through July 8.

A Step Beyond the Rain:  This powerful one-­woman show is a true story about a mother and her two daughters struggling under the weight of physical and mental illness. A Step Beyond the Rain was written and performed by actress Miata Edoga.  Veteran actor, Ashley Crow, best known for her roles in “Heroes”, “Minority Report” and “The Secret Circle” is making her directorial debut. Studio City resident and award winning television producer Gabrielle Yuro is producing. The production plays weekends at the Two Roads Theatre, (4348 Tujunga Avenue) in Studio City through Sunday, July 1.

Standing Room Only A Comedy Magic Variety Show: It’s all taking place at Flappers Yoo Hoo Room in Burbank on June 16 at 7:30 pm. This show features comedy with lots of laughter and fun-filled magic hosted by the hilarious Raul Fernandez. Appearing this month are comedians Karen Knotts and Jimmy Palombi with magicians Brian Hoffman and Stephen Levine, plus the mad cap antics of Buster Balloon. SoCal Test Drive ExpoLooking for a different Father’s Day weekend activity? The SoCal Test Drive Expo, the nation’s first-ever all test drive auto show, will have the streets of Long Beach filled with dads and grads test driving the newest vehicles from auto manufacturers. Featuring new makes and models from Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, GMC, Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, Fiat, Ford, Subaru and Volkswagen, the show’s unique, one-stop registration process will allow visitors to test drive dozens of different vehicles from the automotive brands with a single $10 admission in a sales free environment. Rodeo Drive Concours d´Elegance: It’s a salute to the Brits at this annual Father’s Day tradition. A wide variety of vintage and racing cars and motorcycles will line Rodeo Drive north from Wilshire Boulevard to Santa Monica Boulevard Sunday, June 17 from 10 am to 4 pm. As the 2012 featured marque, Aston Martin will be the centerpiece of the 200 block of Rodeo Drive with both new and classic cars.  The marque´s iconic DB5 has been featured in five James Bond films. The 300 Block of Rodeo Drive will also feature British classic and racing autos including Austin Healey, Bentley, Jaguar, Land Rover, Lotus, MG, McLaren and  Rolls Royce brands.  Also, a special British motorcycle area will honor Triumph, Vincent, BSA and Norton. It’s also the Grand opening of the new Rolex store.

34th annual Playboy Jazz Festival: This year’s roster on  Saturday and Sunday at the Hollywood Bowl includes the legendary Ramsey Lewis, Robin Thicke, Ozomatli, the Christian McBride Big Band, Shelia E. and Boney James. LAUSD’s Beyond The Bell and Calabasas High’s Jazz Band are performing too.

Making Music Pasadena:  This is a  free musical celebration throughout downtown Pasadena. Dengue Fever, Grouplove, Cults and KCRW DJ Jason Bentley join an eclectic mix of pop, rock, electronic and funk artists are scheduled to perform. Saturdays Off the 405 at The Getty:  Enjoy outdoor music and evening views of the city  while checking out summer exhibitions. Free tours depart at 6 and 7 p.m. The evening features performances by up and coming bands, along with DJ sets to open and close the night.   A cash bar serves Getty-tinis and more, and the Garden Terrace Cafe offers sandwiches, salads, and other nibbles (both until 8:30 p.m.). This Saturday, Allen Stone takes the outdoor stage from 6-9 pm.  His music integrates classic soul, catchy pop hooks, R & B beats, and folk roots.
