What’s New…

Studio City’s “sushi row” might just take on the name “pizza row” as well.  Pizza Rev, a “craft-your-own” eatery, is opening its second location on September 21 at 12103 Ventura Blvd  (just west of Laurel Canyon). The first Pizza Rev is located in Northridge and opened this past April (as previously mentioned by MDF).  This casual eatery is a pizza bar where you can customize personal artisan pizzas with a choice of multiple sauces, cheeses, and toppings. Their “Fire Deck” oven is on a super-high heat that cooks each pizza in under three minutes.  Each pizza is $7.45 for unlimited toppings including all the traditional favorites,  plus many gourmet options such as kalamata olives, artichoke hearts, capers, fennel, meatball, ham, sausage, bacon, and garlic chicken.

Speaking of  pizza, Crust Pizza Bar in Studio City has changed the eatery’s interior to tables and chairs instead of the previous “lounge” look.   According to V.P. Cody Highsmith,  the change was made because “an overwhelming majority of customers suggested that we change the tables and chairs so it’s more conducive for sitting and eating as most people were complaining that the seats and tables were uncomfortable (hunch forward). Highsmith said that the change has illicited  “an amazing response” from customers. The outdoor lounge furniture remains the same as does a tufted booth.

Wasabi Sushi opened its first California location last month at the Westfield Topanga Mall in Canoga Park.  There are 70 types of sushi and rolls available by the plate that circulate on a conveyor belt (known as Kaiten).  Plates are color coded by price ($2.50-$5).  There’s also a bento box for kids. The eatery is located in an open space area on Level 1 of the Sears Court. Special Grand Opening Promotion: Get 50% off your check when you check in to the Wasabi page on mobile social media (FB, Yelp, FourSquare) through August 21. Show your phone to your server when seated. 6600 Topanga Blvd. Open 11 a.m.-9 p.m. Mon-Sat., 11 a.m.-7 p.m. Sun.

Story Tavern  opened in downtown Burbank a few weeks ago. It is named after a hardware store that was once owned by Burbank’s first mayor. The bar menu includes  20 varieties of craft beer on tap, accompanied by a selection of craft bottled beer. there’s also 12 wines on tap and four ciders.  The food menu consists of seasonal comfort food choices, including burgers, satays, pasta, steak, salads and even root beer floats. 150 S. San Fernando Blvd., Burbank.
