Sunny Thompson as Marilyn Monroe in “Marilyn: Forever Blonde” at the El Portal Theatre in  North Hollywood through Sunday.

THURSDAY-SUNDAY

Marilyn: Forever Blonde:  This limited run through Sunday at the El Portal Theatre in North Hollywood is about  what might have been Marilyn Monroe’s last chance to tell her story in her own words. Starring Sunny Thompson,  it’s played over 400 times across the U.S. Canada and England. Conceived by award-winning producer and writer Greg Thompson, the script  was constructed  from hundreds of quotes from Monroe herself.  The words in the play are all Monroe’s own and the songs are all songs she sang in her movies (although they are sung in a personal “storybook” style).  Ultimately, these are the final thoughts of a little girl who became a legend and in turn could never be loved or accepted for herself.  The play is funny, sad, witty, titillating, sometimes scandalous, and in the end, heartbreaking, as we watch the desperation of a woman lost in a world of Hollywood make-believe. Thursday, August 2 at 8 p.m., Friday, August 3 at 8 p.m., Saturday, August 4 at 3 p.m. and 8 p.m., Sunday, August 5 at 3 p.m..
