The Weekend Cocktail: The Gold Medal Martini

All eyes have been on London as the events of the Summer Olympics have kept us riveted to our TV’s. I told my friend that I had “Olympic neck,” the strain from falling asleep while trying stay awake to not miss a moment!

Sadly, this is the last weekend of competition, but word is that the closing ceremonies are going to be cheeky, cheesy and thrilling! Kate Bush, George Michael, The Who, The Spice Girls, Adele, Pet Shop Boys and the boy band One Direction as possible acts for what is dubbed “the world’s greatest after party”

Th NBC primetime coverage begins  at 7 p.m. Sunday evening. I will be watching with friends sipping a Gold Medal Martini! The dry kick of the gin is tarted up a bit with citrus juice followed by a sweet honey finish. You can rim the glass with edible gold dust found at craft or specialty food stores! It is also available online.

I guess the start of my daughter’s junior year this week will have to replace my attention from my Olympic obsession. Cheers!

The Gold Medal Martini

4 ounces London Gin

4 ounces Lemonade

2 ounces Fresh Orange Juice

1 teaspoon. of Orange Flower Honey

Drizzle of Cointreau

Rim two martini glasses with edible gold dust. Combine the first four ingredients into shaker filled with ice.  Shake and strain into two martini glasses. Drizzle with Cointreau. Serves 2.
