Katsu-ya favorites can be found at Little Izaka-ya by Katsu-ya in Sherman Oaks.

Little Izaka-ya by Katsu-ya  opened quietly last month in Sherman Oaks, replacing Sushi Fukyo on Sepulveda just south of Ventura. It’s the third branch of the West 3rd Street and Manhattan Beach restaurants and joins Katsuya Uechi’s other restaurants, Katsu-ya in Studio City and Encino. In addition to sushi, there is a good selection of fish, meat and noodle dishes, plus a larger sake menu—and of course,  the specials for which  Katsu-ya is known.  4517 Sepulveda Blvd., Sherman Oaks, (818) 789-3111.

The Baby Cake from Xtreme Desserts.

The Aces of Cakes in the 818? Well, not quite, but we do have a pretty good simulation with  Xtreme Desserts who is now adding specialty cakes to their sweet  repertoire. In addition to baked goods, they also just started serving cookie ice cream sandwiches in six flavors, including: Red Velvet, Pecan Maple with Pralines & Cream, Double chocolate with Mint Chip, Chocolate Chip with vanilla, and latest trendy flavor of all, Caramel and Sea Salt. Located in the Studio City Trader Joes Center.

Can you get enough pizza?

Pizza, pizza, pizza and more pizza…fortunately, this time it’s Joe’s Pizza coming by way of New York (with two L.A. locales first) and landing at the Westfield Fashion Square in Sherman Oaks. Also watch out forJoe’s Pizza Truck, selling  pizza by the slice and by the pie.  Look for both late September.
