Universal CityWalk’s “Music Spotlight Series” at “5 Towers”:  Celebrate the end of summer with Universal CityWalk’s FREE “Music Spotlight Series” at “5 Towers”— four energetic nights of non-stop music and entertainment. Performances kick-off on Friday, August 31 with an appearance by noted Hollywood blogger and TV personality Perez Hilton, and Bella Thorne, star of the hit TV series “Shake it Up!” The two will join breakout acts IM5, All Day Everyday, Wellington and VanJess who will perform for a standing room only crowd at “5 Towers,” Universal CityWalk’s state-of-the-art outdoor concert venue. On Saturday, September 1, Chilean band Sajama showcases smooth Latin rhythms and on Sunday, September 2, retro band The Spazmatics rocks out with sounds from the 80s. On Monday, September 3, The Rocket Summer, headlined by singer/songwriter Bryce Avary, will provide a lively finale to the summer series. Click here for times and more information.

Malibu Kiwanis Chili Cook Off: This Labor Day weekend year marks the 31st  year anniversary of the Malibu Kiwanis Chili Cook-Off, Carnival and Fair.  Entry is $10 per person per day; children 5-11 years old $5 per person per day; children under the age of 5 enter for free. The Four Day Event Pass gains entry for two people each of the four days of the event (an $80 value).

LA County Fair: Visit the L. A. County Fair and experience the magic that has fueled this 90-year Los Angeles tradition. With an astounding assortment of exciting exhibits plus everyone’s classic favorites the L.A. LA TIMES/TASTE: This food and wine extravaganza, sponsored by the LA Times and Food & Wine, includes five different culinary events. at Paramount Pictures Studios in Hollywood. Saturday – Monday of Labor Day Weekend.  $65 per event,  $75 starting Sept 1.  Star chefs include Susan Feniger, Thomas Keller, Richard Zarate and Ludo Lefebre. Over 50 restaurants , plus wineries and distilleries are participating.  Ticket price includes unlimited beer, wine, spirits and food tastings, plus access to cocktail presentations.   One of the highlights for MDF is the  Labor Day Picnic Backyard. My Daily Find Conejo Valley’s Debbie Pappalau is one of  the winners of the Los Angeles Times 2012 Battle of the Burgers who will discuss their recipes, why they chose them and their trick to making a good burger great.

Meet Me @Metro: Uncovering Los Angeles’ Hidden Treasures is Watts Village Theater Company’s third annual celebration of transit and performing arts. It is the largest participatory performance extravaganza in the US, taking place on and around the Los Angeles Metro transit system. This hands-on artistic expedition will search out culturally significant sites around the Metro rail system and create “artistic excavations” that will allow audience members to discover and learn about Los Angeles’ rich and diverse artistic history in an active and participatory manner.
