The 9/11 Memorial at Fire Station 88 in Sherman Oaks

On the 11th Anniversary of 9/11, we never forget the lives of those we lost….

9/11 Memorial Fountain in Sherman Oaks:  Los Angeles Fire Department Fire Station 88 will hold an observance  at  the Memorial , 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, September. 11. Portions of the World Trade Center and the Pentagon will be on display.  Guest speakers will include City Councilman Tom LaBonge , Los Angeles City Controller Wendy Greuel, LAPD chaplain Ron Carter, LAFD Fire Chief Brian Cummings, and LAFD Battalion Chief Joe Castro. Refreshments will be served.  5101 N. Sepulveda Blvd., Sherman Oaks.

Beverly Hills 9/11 Memorial Garden: The Beverly Hills Fire Department will hold an observance at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, September 11. Beverly Hills Fire Department, 455 N. Rexford Drive. 310-288-0663.

9/11 Volunteer Opportunity:     The Mission Continues, The 9/11 Day Observance, The Corporation for National and Community Service and Volunteers  remember those lost on 9/11 by serving at the Volunteers of America Los Angeles (VOALA) North Hollywood Apartments. The facility provides transitional housing and support services to veterans and young women emancipated from the foster care system as well as offering affordable housing to seniors and families below market value to allow them to save money to purchase homes of their own. Help  revitalize the facility by landscaping, cleaning, painting and more.   Registration is from noon -1 p.m., Project from 1 p.m.-5 p.m/, VOALA North Hollywood Apartments, 6724 Tujunga Ave. North Hollywood.

Operation Gratitude: Help send  care packages of snacks, entertainment items and personal letters of appreciation to U.S. Military personnel deployed in hostile regions overseas, September 11 9 a.m.-1 p.m.Volunteers are needed to prepare and assemble the packages for shipment. Los Angeles Fire Department Historical Society:   The LAFD Museum and Memorial  will hold a remembrance at 7 a.m. Tuesday, September 11. 1355 N. Cahuenga Blvd., Hollywood.

Waves of Flags at Pepperdine University:  3000 flags are on display  through Sept. 19  on the  Alumni Park  Lawn, 24255 Pacific Coast Highway, Malibu.
