A few weeks ago, we reported that Lemonade is coming to Studio City in mid-May, but we wanted to wait to announce the location until the deal was officially inked. Well, now we have it. Lemonade is replacing Kings Road Cafe at the corner of Rhodes and Ventura. Kings Road Cafe owner Lawrence Casperson emailed MDF the following statement: “Our original lease signed in June of 2008 is up this June. Several months ago we informed the landlord that we would not be renewing our lease. The landlord has secured a lease with the Lemonade Restaurant Group and it was advantageous to us to move out a few months earlier than our lease end date. I am deeply appreciative of all the community support we have had in Studio City. It is a great neighborhood to live and work in.”
MDF first wrote about Kings Road Cafe when it opened in Studio City in January 2010 as the second outpost of the original that opened in 1990 on Beverly Blvd. in Los Angeles. Kings Road Cafe’s departure is quite bittersweet as it was really the first “city” restaurant to take a chance in the 818. As we now know by seeing the influx of restaurants, Casperson can be considered a trailblazer.
And speaking of city restaurants landing in the 818, more exciting news —Mendocino Farms has announced that they will be opening their first valley location in Sherman Oaks in the mix-use building that is currently under construction on Ventura Blvd. just west of Hazeltine (next to Taco Bell which looks quite dwarfed amidst the construction). The menu consists of gourmet artisan sandwiches, salads and soups made from seasonal ingredients — all of which they raise to a whole new level. Check out the menu here to see what the 818 has in store for new eats. It’s about time.
All Loteria Grill locations are serving up Valentine’s Week specials through Feburary 17. There’s an eclectic selection of salads, soups, tacos, enchiladas and a dessert trio that features Flourless Chocolate Cake, Mexican Sweet Cheese Homemade Ice Cream with Sautéed Strawberries and Churros with Chocolate Abuelita dipping sauce. Click here for the complete menu.
For all the North Valley-ites, Mimi’s Cafe is offering quite the Valentine’s deal through February 17 from 4 p.m.-11 p.m. Their Valentine’s Menu for two at $26.99 is a French-inspired three-course meal featuring a variety of options. Start off with a choice of soup, garden or caesar salad, followed by a choice of Chicken Madeira, Beef Bourguignon, Quatre Fromages Ravioli or “Soul” Piccata. Finish with the Mimi’s Classic Ensemble dessert (petite desserts such as Bread Pudding, Fresh Apple Cinnamon Crisp a la mode and a Triple Chocolate Brownie Sundae) or for an extra $2.99, choose Chocolate Molten Cake or Cherry Chocolate Cheesecake. Also in February, Mimi’s will support the American Heart Association’s® Go Red for Women® movement with its second annual Mimi’s Goes Red campaign, which will include a month-long fundraiser and incentives for guests who donate.
