Guys and Dolls. Jr.: Join the Walter Reed Middle School community on Friday, March 8 and Saturday, March 9 for their spring musical theater production of “Guys and Dolls, Jr.!” An impressive all student cast of actors, singers, and dancers will be accompanied by a full pit orchestra consisting entirely of Walter Reed student musicians.  With show tune favorites like “A Bushel and a Peck,” and “Luck Be A Lady,” this snazzy, jazzy, fun-filled production will entertain the whole family!  Guys and Dolls, Jr. is produced and directed by Walter Reed’s Award Winning Music Department chair, Stephen McDonough, along with Janice Kueppers, Jessica O’Rourke and the PTSA.  Showtime starts at 7p.m.  Walter Reed Middle School Auditorium, 4525 Irvine, North Hollywood, CA 91604. Tickets are on sale now: $12 for adults, $6 for students and will be available at the door.

High Tea At Henry Road: This delightfully whimsical home design and gift store is celebrating their new location on Saturday, March 9 from 4 p.m. – 8 p.m. Owner Paula promises there will be “delicious treats and libations” from Big Sugar Bakeshop, Cake Monkey Bakery and Cafe Al Dente, plus party favors for one and all.  And when the sun sets, the band, 8mm,  will serenade with an acoustic set.  12240 1/2 Ventura Boulevard, Studio City (South of Ventura, 1 1/2 blocks west of Laurel Canyon)

Community Career Expo and Job Fair: The West Valley Occupational Center and the Van Nuys Service Center will host a free Community Career Expo and Job Fair on Saturday, March 9 from 10 a.m.-3 p.m.  In addition to exposure to local employers, the event will include: Career and job readiness workshops and/or presentations, a “Dress for Success” fashion show and celebrity stylist, plus food trucks and prizes.The “Ready-Set-Earn” event is supported by L.A. Unified School District Board Member Steve Zimmer and LAUSD Division of Adult and Career Education Executive Director Michael Romero.  West Valley Occupational Center (D.A.C.E. Van Nuys Service Center), 6200 Winnetka Avenue, Woodland Hills.

Definitions – An Artists’ Relationship to Techniques + Mediums:  The San Fernando Valley Arts Council and the Valley Arts Alliance are presenting a special exhibit  that will be celebrated  with an artist’s reception on Saturday, March 9, from 6 p.m.-9 p.m.  The evening will include a poetry reading by  Dori Marler and James Maverick.  Guitarist, Thom Dower will also be part of the entertainment at the reception.  The public is welcome .Each selected artist has written about their experiences with certain types of techniques and/or mediums that have made a lasting impression on themselves as well as their art. The exhibit runs through March 16 at the Canoga Park Youth Arts Center, 7222 Remmet Avenue, Canoga Park and is open from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.

7th Annual JamFest:   This annual benefit concert will be held at The Roxy on Sunday, March 10 from 1 p.m.-4 p.m.  JamFest was started by Bridges Academy in 2006 as a means to raise money and awareness for MusiCares, the philanthropic arm of the Grammy Foundation. Participating schools are Bridges Academy, Harvard-Westlake, Oakwood School, Campbell Hall, Crossroads School, Join the Band, Star Prep Academy, Viewpoint School and New Community Jewish High School.   The Roxy 9009 Sunset Blvd. Los Angeles.

 

Take a Walk in Movie History: King Gillette Ranch was home to early MGM Director Clarence Brown who made films and threw star-studded parties. Now you can take a story-filled walk on Saturday, March 9 from 10 a.m.-11:30 a.m. through this still active filming location. Meet at parking lot to left of pond, 1.5 hours. Free program, parking inside park $7. King Gillette Ranch, 26800 Mulholland Hwy, Calabasas.

Woofstock 90210: Don’t miss this annual pet extravaganza on Sunday, March 10 from 11 a.m.-4 p.m., presented by the City of Beverly Hills’ Community Services Department. Woofstock 90210 is an exciting, day-long festival for dogs and their owners, featuring:Pet adoptions/rescues hosted by Pets 90210, 40+ pet-related vendors,Food trucks,Pet Parade (small fee to enter), Pet & people face and body painting (nominal charge,Live entertainment for pets and people, Free parking at Beverly Hills High School with pet-friendly shuttles to the park,Local veterinarians on-site,Pet Emergency preparedness information.Important information: Pets must be current on all necessary vaccinations to attend. Sounds of Silence: Relax in the early morning on Saturday, March 9 at 9 a.m.and take a peaceful hike in Franklin Canyon. Meet at Sooky Goldman Nature Center, 2 hours.

The Johnny Holiday Program: The Johnny Holiday  Program is back at the Sportsmen’s Lodge Events Center with very special guests this month — The Mills Brothers, plus The Satin Dollz Pin-Up Dancers, Christine Nelson, Adam Tunney, John Reynolds and The Dean Mora Orchestra. All the fun will take place in the majestic Empire Ballroom on March 15. Guests will be transported back in time for an evening of “old school cool with a new cool vibe.”  Enjoy a gourmet three course dinner, full no-host bar and dancing. $69 per person.  For tickets,  click here.

Fabulous Host Families Wanted: The NOHO ARTS DISTRICT is looking for super fun host families of all shapes and sizes for their LA Cultural Exchange Program for international high school students who are  dancers, actors, photographers, singers and musicians coming to L.A. to study.
