Arbor Day Festival:   The Los Angeles Valley College Associated Student Union and Eco Advocates Club will hold an “Arbor Day Festival” on Friday, April 26 from 11 a.m.-2:30 p.m. in the North Mall grass area (north of Monarch Square) in front of the Art Building.  The public is welcome to have some eco-friendly fun with live entertainment, food, recycle-art contest, and much more! Join an exciting Tree Scavenger Hunt, which will explore the diverse tree population at Valley College in a creative and fun way. Prizes will be awarded to the winning scavenger hunt teams. Ladies Night Out in Burbank: Tonight is the night  (and the last Friday of every month), in the Magnolia Park area of Burbank. Get your friends together from 6 to 9 p.m. for a store-to-store party filled with super sales, wine tasting, art show, food trucks,  book signings, goodies, fashion shows and prize drawings. Check out the Facebook page to keep up to date on all the activities.  Shop along the blocks of 3100 through 3500 on West Magnolia Blvd.

LAdrinks2Boston: This is a day for LA bars, restaurants and customers to raise money for the victims of the Boston bombings. The City of Boston has set up a fund for those affected by the bombings, www.onefundboston.org, so  the L.A. event will help raise money by restaurants and bars donating a percentage of profits, or other fundraising activities. The list is growing all over Los Angeles, and there’s food in addition to drinks, so “Like” the Facebook page and check it out to see what businesses are participating.

Annual National Park Service Science Festival: It’s free and perfect for inquiring minds of all ages! Become a citizen scientist. Learn how to track mountain lions, bobcats, and island foxes. Get to know the native marine life. Discover the mysteries of your neighborhood national parks.  Join the fun on  Saturday, April 27, 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Paramount Ranch. Activities for people of all ages, include talks, hands-on demonstrations, nature walks, family activities, live animal displays, and a chance to meet and talk with the scientists. 2813 Cornell Road, Agoura Hills.

 

Healthy Kids Day: On Saturday, April 27, the East, Mid, and West Valley Family YMCAs are teaming up with the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Anthem Blue Cross Foundation to celebrate YMCA’s Healthy Kids Day® with a free community event that encourages kids and families in the San Fernando Valley to get moving and live healthier. Healthy fun will take place at Woodley Park in Van Nuys from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and will features fun active play and educational activities such as a Frisbee tournament, free health screenings, inflatable obstacle courses for kids, and a Zumba party. Los Angeles Dodgers alumni will also be on hand to greet and sign autographs and well as provide fun interactive activities for kids. The day will kick-off with the 2nd annual Tri Y Dash, a 5K obstacle course and one mile family funrun. The Brewery ArtWalk :  It’s the 30th anniversary of this twice annual open studio weekend in Downtown LA with over 100 participating resident artists. See new works, discover new favorites, speak with the artists and purchase artwork directly from the artists’ studios..  Come by this Saturday and Sunday from  11 a.m. – 6 p.m.  Admission is free and so is parking.    Support  the arts, take home some great works and dine at the on-site restaurant.

The Good Life at Westfield Topanga Come to the mall this Saturday and  Sunday for a fashion show, free beauty makeovers, free manicures, free blow dry bar, panel of fashion experts and live entertainment. There will be a Spring Fashion Show on Saturday, April 27 at 2 p.m. and  3 p.m. Come for complimentary makeovers, dry bar, and treats on Sunday, April 28 from 1 p.m. – 4 p.m.  Events last through May 2.  Check with website for details.

Topanga Vintage Market:   It’s a first anniversary celebration at this popular market this Sunday. No need to traipse out to Long Beach, Santa Monica or the Rose Bowl. This specialized monthly market features  authentic vintage goods and collectibles with over 150 booths. 8 a.m – 3 p.m. at the Westfield Promenade, and the fourth Sunday of every month (except December).   Read the My Daily Find article  here!

36th Annual Doo Dah Parade:  This distinctive parade will rumble through East Pasadena on Saturday (it’s also referred to as the “twisted sister of the Rose Bowl Parade). Led by its new Queen— Patrizzi Intergarlactica, the Pasadena Doo Dah Parade will celebrate 36 years of irreverent playfulness on the streets of Pasadena. The 2013 Parade takes place this Saturday, April 27, stepping off at 11 a.m. in East Pasadena along Colorado Boulevard..  Colorado Boulevard (between Altadena and San Gabriel Boulevards) in East Pasadena. It’s free.

11th annual Victory for Victims 5k/10k River Walk/Run: Support Northridge Hospital’s Center for Assault Treatment Services (CATS), the only 24-hour, seven-day-a-week, immediate response program for victims of sexual abuse in the San Fernando and Santa Clarita Valleys. See Olympic Gold Medalist Rafer Johnson and other featured guests. The American Folk Music Fest: It’s a day of country, bluegrass, blues, celtic and traditional folk music, along with refreshments, and many fun activities for kidson Sunday, April 28, from 11:30 a.m. until 6 p.m. on the outdoor ranch grounds of the Leonis Adobe Museum in Calabasas. Proceeds will go to the Jennifer Diamond Cancer Foundation, a non-profit organization located in Chatsworth providing free cancer support programs for the community. Several music groups will perform throughout the afternoon, including: Mike Stein & Jerusalem Stone, J.D. Weiss & Mike Stein, The Prarie Boys, Modal Tease String Band, Ross Altman, Sugar In The Gourd, Dawson’s Gang, and Keeping Fire. Taste of the Eastside:  It’s the third  year celebrating the delicious and diverse cuisine from the chefs, restaurants and beer and wine purveyors of Eastside neighborhoods including Silver Lake, Echo Park, Atwater, Los Feliz, Eagle Rock, Highland Park and beyond. With a mission of teaching about community sharing and local food, the festival features a variety of activities including food tastings, VIP cooking and cocktail demonstrations and entertainment .  More than 30 restaurants are participating.
