Who better to create an online news magazine for the San Fernando Valley than an original Valley girl? Moon Unit Zappa has nothing on Karen Young where the Valley is concerned (well, okay, Moon Unit may a bit cooler on that “Valley” spectrum, just from the fact that her name is Moon Unit, her father was Frank, and she could sing…the song “Valley Girl,” at least).
MY DAILY FIND was born from the Valley bred mind of Karen Young (although she did leave to attend and graduate from the University of California Berkeley), who simply has always had a need to tell people about her finds and discoveries — the latest, the greatest, the funniest, the most interesting and the most inspiring — whether the subject is a person, product, business, event or place.
Her first (and rather lengthy foray) into this tell-tale world was in entertainment public relations. However, journalism, her first love, lured her away and she left her life as a flack behind and moved on to the Sun Community Newspapers, serving as writer and editor of its three unique weekly newspapers (Studio City Sun, Sherman Oaks Sun, Encino Sun).
Karen became intrigued with the possibilities of the internet and about telling the stories of people who live, work and create in the San Fernando Valley. In writing about these people on the world wide web, she thought she could put a “face” on the Valley and show the “borderless” global community (okay, and those just a hop, skip and a jump “over the hill” in L.A., as well as those living ‘this way and that’) that there is “a there there” in the Valley.
Welcome to the Brave New World — the San Fernando Valley online at MY DAILY FIND – up close and personal. It’s a new model for journalism on the web.
