Haiti has gone through a horrific disaster this week with damage that will take years to rebuild. I am so moved by this story and the courage of the Haitian people that I pledge to help them in any way I can. You can as well. To HELP HAITI, Text 90999 and write HAITI in the message. $10 will be given through the State Department to the Red Cross and charged to your cell phone bill. Or go to www.redcross.org and see if there are other ways you can help.
Once the center of the French sugar cane production industry, Haitian Rum really showcases the flavors of the island. As we lift our glasses this weekend, I celebrate the people of Haiti and all of us who are pouring our resources, talents and compassion to help those in need.
HAITIAN COCKTAIL
3 ounces Haitian rum
1-ounce fresh limejuice
1-teaspoon sugar
Rim two martini glasses with sugar. Shake in iced cocktail shaker & strain into glasses. Since there is really no non-alcoholic version. I recommend mixing some tropical juices and pouring it into a sugar rimmed martini glass.
