Looking for a unique camp experience? Is your child an aspiring Scorsese or Spielberg, or a Pixar groupie? Or do they simply just like to watch movies? Well, it’s time to get them off the couch!
Celluloid Heroes Movie Camp with Brad Koepenick is offering two special one-week sessions in Tarzana this summer with a discount for two children enrolled. No prior experience or special training is necessary because kids learn from experience.
Students conceive, write, storyboard, produce and direct their own stop motion shorts
Students will conceive, write, storyboard, produce and direct their own stop motion shorts, engage in exciting acting and theatre exercises and learn all they need to know about “in camera” special effects.
Jacob Strick, a Hollywood resident who just graduated from Vassar College (and an alumnus of The Country School in Valley Village), and is now a filmmaker with his own website (www.penguinbros.com), directly credits his career direction with his experience at the camp. “I did this camp in first grade and now I’m a filmmaker.”
Koepenick, who teaches at CHAMPS in Sherman Oaks and is a California Charter Teacher of the Year winner, has offered this “hands on” production workshop at over 50 schools, as well as yearly camps, in Los Angeles since 1993.
“I’ve been doing this camp for 16 years now and to watch a student discover the process of stop motion animation, to see their characters come to life, to see them voice and tell unique stories that move, educate and entertain audiences…I NEVER get tired of this experience,” says Koepenick. “Actually, it’s one of my favorite experiences and I enjoy it as much as they do.”
Individual attention is given to all.
He and his students are also the winners of the California Media Festival, LA “Digital Voice Award,” NoHo International Student Film Festival, LA Gold Award Festivak, LAUSD VIC Awards (Video in the Classroom).
