John O’Groats, known for its outstanding breakfasts, is opening a new restaurant in Encino. The iconic Rancho Park eatery was featured in Esquire Magazine’s “Best Breakfast in America” issue this past March.

John O' Groats is bringing breakfast to the Valley.
Paul Tyler, owner of John O’Groats, said the Ventura Boulevard location is slated to open in September/October 2009. “We’ve been waiting for the right opportunity to present itself and this was it. We are extremely excited to serve the valley. We look at the project as an extension and expansion of our home on Pico Boulevard,” said Tyler.

Max will become Marche at the end of August.
Chef Gary Menes is leaving his position as chef /partner at Glendale’s highly touted Palate Food + Wine to take over as chef and partner at Max in Sherman Oaks. The restaurant will be renamed Marche and will feature small plates and seasonal market cuisine. There will also be a resident cheese expert. Max owner Andres Guerrero will still be a partner, but is leaving the daily operation to Menes while he tends to his other restaurants, Boho in Hollywood, and The Oinkster in Eagle Rock. Menes’ arrival to the Sherman Oaks restaurant marks his return to the Valley. He was the original chef at Firefly before he moved on to the Patina Group’s eat. on Sunset, and then Palate. Menes honed his culinary skills at French Laundry in Napa Valley.
