Christine "Chris" Essel
Los Angeles City Council District 2 runoff candidates Christine Essel, a 30-year film industry veteran, and Assembly Member Paul Krekorian, will face off in a debate at the Studio City Residents Association (SCRA) monthly community meeting tonight (Tuesday, October 13) at the Beverly Garland Holiday Inn in Studio City.
The candidates will field questions from the audience posed by a moderator with an opportunity for brief opening and closing remarks. Issues of concern to the community include planning and land use – particularly the continued efforts to save Weddington Golf & Tennis in Studio City; the status of the MTA/Universal development; efforts to halt mansionization; and reactions to high density housing development – as well as traffic, crime and safety and redistricting.
The run-off election to fill the open Council District 2 seat will take place on December 8.
The Second Council District seat which represents the communities of Lake View Terrace, La Tuna Canyon, North Hollywood, Shadow Hills, Sherman Oaks, Studio City, Sunland, Sun Valley, Tujunga, Valley Village, Valley Glen and Van Nuys, has been vacant since July 1, when former L.A. City Councilmember Wendy Greuel took office as City Controller.
The debate is open to the public. Validated parking is available.
