I have groundbreaking news! Today is National Root Beer Float Day! With smooth vanilla ice cream, somewhat bitter root beer complete with frothy foam, a root beer float is an all-American classic. Root Beer was manufactured, bottled, and sold starting in 1880. Legend has it that 13 years later, the root beer float, which is sometimes referred to as a “black cow,” was first invented by Frank Wisner of Cripple Creek, Colorado, who was inspired to float a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top of his glass of root beer.

Three Olives Vodka recently released the world’s first Root Beer flavored vodka, perfect for celebrating the little known holiday! Over a century ago, Root Beer was introduced as an alcoholic beverage, and Three Olives is thrilled to be the first to put the booze back into this all-American classic. You can order it here.

It is simple to still celebrate without the alcohol.  I think it’s a  fun idea to set up a “make your own root beer float” table and have an impromptu root beer float party!

Cheers!
