It’s the weekend after the new year and stores are still bustling as sale signs continue to draw crowds. The next few days brings new things to do — such as a little more shopping to help others with a new fundraising organization dreamed up by a local teen; check some vintage wares; learn about beer and baseball; grab some free concert tix, get a Starbucks deal; scoop of some beauty products at a super sale; be green; and get some puppy training for free.

FASHION MEETS PHILANTHROPY: Sarah Lawler, a Tarzana resident and a senior at New Community Jewish High School, has independently created a non-profit organization called Cupcakes and Lemonade to bring “philanthropy and fashion” together. “I decided that fashion should not only be used to express ourselves, but to express our passion for making this world a better place,” said Lawler.  Her goal is to sponsor events where  a percentage of the proceeds go back to organizations in need— and to spread that awareness globally. Her first event will be held this Sunday, January 9 from 10:30am-3pm at the Tarzana Community and Cultural Center, 19130 Ventura Blvd. Vendors include Spa Escapes, a Mobile spa service, which will provide free spa demos, mini hand massages, gift certificates for a one-hour spa retreat and spa products; Eliza Cadavona’s Aloha Glitter Tattoos; Bahar Basseri’s 2B Mine Jewelry; Linda and Lizzy Siag Fragrances, Handbags, and Jewelry; and Doron Zounes- Vintage clothes, shoes, jackets, records, and paintings. In addition, Cupcakes and Lemonades will sell their own beaded handmade “Awareness” bracelets. Cupcakes and lemonade will be sold during the event. Fellow teen, singer/songwriter Shira Kreitenberg, will perform. Admission is $5. The two organizations that will be recipients of the event are Support For The Kids and Invisible Children.  Check out the Facebook page for further info.
