The dilemma of living in Southern California in January is you don’t know if you will be wearing shorts and tee shirts or a coat and scarf! Some days you start all bundled and you peel off layers down to a tank top. Luckily it looks like we are in for some cooler weather (don’t laugh too hard my east coast friends!) and you can usually count on it getting a bit chilly when the sun goes down! The perfect cocktail for this time of year is the Warm Julep.A nice light refreshing and cozy warm take on the classic mint julep! You can simply omit the bourbon and have a festive more fancy cup of mint tea! Cheers!

Warm Julep

3 ounces bourbon

1 ½ – 2 ounces brown sugar syrup (see below)

2 peppermint tea bags

hot water

Mint sprig for garnish

Warm two Irish coffee glasses (or coffee mug or brandy snifter) with hot water. Pour hot water out of glasses. Add 5 ounces of fresh boiling water and 1 teabag to each glass and brew for 5 minutes. Remove tea bags. Add bourbon and brown sugar syrup; stir to combine. Garnish with lots of mint sprigs.

To make brown sugar syrup, combine 1-cup dark brown sugar to 1 cup boiling water, and allow to cool.
