Camille Larrauri lost 20 pounds doing Zumba — a very popular fitness regime that combines latin and hip hop dance moves to high energy beats and popular music. Thrilled with the results and the change in her lifestyle, she wanted to share that with others so she trained to become an instructor and opened FitSquadLA one year ago.

FitSquad has been making the rounds in the San Fernando Valley at various locales. Most recently, they’ve hooked up with Curves for Zumba in the Circuit in Encino, Van Nuys/Sherman Oaks and Burbank, as well as private gyms such as Results in Sherman Oaks, Topham in Tarzana and USA Fitness in North Hills.
To celebrate, the group is having a first anniversary Zumba “after dark” party which is open to the public on January 28 at the Woodland Hills Athletic Club from 8- 10 pm. Pre-sale tickets are $15 and $20 at the door.
Camille has brought together a unique group of instructors who’ve lost anywhere from 15 to 50 pounds with the Zumba workout. Having each met their fitness goals by committing themselves to Zumba classes, they have the empathy it takes to keep their classes as fun as possible while making sure their clients get the work out they need according to individual fitness levels.
High energy choreography and routines entice newcomers to keep attending classes; everyone is encouraged to work and their own pace. Classes are kept fresh by introducing new routines every month and making sure that no two classes are ever the same. One class may focus on cha cha, salsa, and merengue, while another may have dance routines for the first half an hour and then toning for the next half. Class prices vary from $7-$10 depending on the locale. All ages and fitness levels are welcome.
FitSquad LA is also serious about giving back to the community, holding Zumba events to raise funds for breast cancer awareness and foster children.
