Canoga Park is celebrating its 100th anniversary, and to mark the occasion, the city is hosting events throughout the year until the official anniversary on March 12, 2012.

Sherman Way in Canoga Park circa 1930.

Kicking off tomorrow, May 19, is the  Canoga Park Summertime Artrageous Art Walk which will take place on the third Thursday of the month through September from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.  There will be 15 venues, 30 artists, food trucks, live music and gallery displays.

The Walk is in the Canoga Park Historic Old Town Center along the Sherman Way Corridor and adjacent side-streets (one block West of Topanga Cyn Blvd. to one block East of Canoga Ave. to one block North of Sherman Way to one block South of Sherman Way). Pick up a map and check in at 7227 Owensmouth or online at www.canogapark100.com or www.canogaparkcal.com.

The Artrageous Art Walk  will  continuously highlight the Canoga Park / West Valley Arts District and its many talented fine artists, musicians, performing artists, live theatres and other art venues.

The walk is organized by the  Canoga Park Improvement Association in partnership with Canoga Park/West Hills Chamber, the Canoga Park 100th Anniversary Committee and the  Canoga Park Neighborhood Council.

The Canoga Park/West Hills Chamber of Commerce is also sponsoring a photography contest as part of the yearlong celebration.

The contest, entitled “24 Hours in Canoga Park”, is meant to depict the best of Canoga Park, its places, people, events and history, as seen by the different perspectives of the individual artist. The contest is open to professional, amateur and student photographers and the CPWH Chamber is hoping for a diverse cross section of participants. Cash and photography related prizes will be awarded and the winning entries, announced July 1,  will be exhibited at various events during the Anniversary Celebration, including a month long exhibit this summer at Westfield’s Mall.

Participants can pick up an entry form and complete rules at Walgreen’s in Canoga Park, Canoga Camera, Woodland Camera and at the Canoga Park/West Hills Chamber of Commerce at 7248 Owensmouth. Contest information can also be found at the website: www.canogapark100.com. Entries must be submitted by midnight, May 31, 2011.
