Tasty Tidbits: More Restaurant News in the San Fernando Valley

Noodle World opened its fifth location on Van Nuys Blvd. in Sherman Oaks last week replacing the longstanding Lannathai. It’s the fifth location for this popular pan Asian noodle house that features  authentic Asian cuisine from Thailand, Japan, Vietnam and China.

This Thursday, July 21,  Magpie Gourmet Mini Pie will be serving free tastings at Cafe Aldente in Studio City from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. (12215 Ventura Blvd — down from Peet’s). Come by and say hello to My Daily Find resident chef Gwen Kenneally and get a taste of some delicious piehole flavors — chocolate dream starburst, peach,apple, meyer lemon. A portion from the proceeds of the mini pies sold this month will go to Wolf People in Cocolala, Idaho.

Nata’s Portuguese Bakery and Cafe at Fulton and Ventura is having a wine tasting event on Friday, July 29 from 7 p.m. – 9 p.m. For $22 per person, try four wines from Portugal, Spain, Chile and Sonoma County. Included in the price is a variety of imported Portuguese and other premium cheeses, Portuguese grilled sausages, passed hors d’oeuvres, their house made marinated olives, house artisan bread, and dried fruits and nuts. An additional limited menu of traditional small plate dishes will be offered for $7 each, including a steak sandwich, salted cod, grilled butterfly shrimp and a beef stew.

Pinot Bistro in Studio City is currently offering BYOB dinners with a customized menu. Call the restaurant at least three days in advance and provide the vintage or variety of your wine, the number of diners in the party, the preferred number of courses and any dietary restrictions. Pinot Bistro Executive chef Steven Mary will create a three to  five-course meal  highlighting your wines. Price ranges from  $39 to $54 per person.  BYOB dinners are available 5:30-9:30 p.m. Monday – Friday. Pinot Bistro also has an ongoing no corkage fee policy daily for regular meals.

Ruth Chris in Woodland Hills is having a four course wine dinner on July 26 featuring Romabauer Vineyard. Braised Short Ribs, Filet with Mushrooms, Lamb and Mashed Potatoes and Apple Crumble with be paired with appropriate wines from Rombauer Vineyard. Call for reservations. (818) 227-9505.

Another entry into the 818 burger scene is  on its way — Stout Burgers and Beers is bringing their Hollywood brand to Studio City later this year specializing in educating patrons about how to pair burgers with beer.  Stout ups the ante on hours with a 4 a.m. closing time.
