Northridge Outdoor Cinema Fest: It’s the last weekend of the summer for this traveling outdoor festival. Be there this Saturday starting at 5:30 p.m. Enjoy six food trucks, live music from Get Back Loretta, shorts from Funny or Die and the feature presentation, Close Encounters of the Third Kind. Massive Estate Sale: What’s old is new this Saturday at a giant neighborhood estate sale. Doors open at 10 a.m.(not before for you anxious sales hunting people!) — and will close when it’s all sold. The Taste: The Taste is a four-day food and wine festival sponsored by the L.A. Times and Food & Wine celebrating all things culinary and epicurean. The event will showcase celebrity chefs at nine signature events over Labor Day weekend. Malibu Kiwanis Chili Cook Off: This Labor Day weekend year marks the 30th year anniversary of the Malibu Kiwanis Chili Cook-Off, Carnival and Fair. 23789 Stuart Ranch Road, Malibu (at Civic Center Way and Stuart Ranch Road). Entry is $10 per person per day; children 5-11 years old $5 per person per day; children under the age of 5 enter for free. The Four Day Event Pass gains entry for two people each of the four days of the event (an $80 value). Skirball Family Amphitheater Performances: See magician David Chen and his Chinese themed tricks on Saturday. Performance group Balle Fette bu Senegal performs on Sunday, bringing the vibrant traditions and culture of West Africa to life through their energetic music and dance. Noon and 2 p.m. both days. Butterfly Pavilion: It’s the closing days of this living exhibit at the Natural HIstory Museum with more than 55 different butterfly and moth species and an array of plants that take up residence in this yearly seasonal exhibit. 900 Exhibition Blvd., Los Angeles. Tickets: $5-$12, under five free.
