The Weekend Cocktail: A Special Hot Apple Cider

Print This Post Print This Post

It seems the older I get the more there is to do around the holidays. I am trying to be mindful about spending more quality time with people I love and reduce the obligations. Who does not need a little holiday cheer that is amazingly simple. This is a basic recipe for a classic winter cocktail. If there are a lot of kids around I just eliminate the wine and it is still a special treat. Trader Joes has a spiced pear juice that also is lovely in this recipe. Your house will smell festive as well! Relax and enjoy this with special friends this holiday season! Cheers!

Hot Apple Cider

4 cups apple cider

1 (750-ml) bottle red wine,

1/4-cup honey

2 cinnamon sticks

1 orange, zested and juiced

4 whole cloves

3 star anise

4 oranges, peeled, for garnish

Combine the cider, wine, honey, cinnamon sticks, zest, juice, cloves and star anise in a large saucepan, bring to a boil and simmer over low heat for 10 minutes. Pour into mugs, add an orange peel to each and serve.
