King of the Sky Astronomy Hike: Take a two-hour, half mile hike and look for Jupiter. Friday, 6:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m., Upper Las Virgenes Canyon Open Space Preserve, North of US-101 and West of Valley Circle Blvd., West Hills. The program is free; parking $3 inside park.
A Snow White Christmas at The El Portal: This holiday play stars an all-star cast —Neil Patrick Harris (How I Met Your Mother), Lindsay Pearce (Glee) and Marina Sirtis (Star Trek) and a miniature little pony named “Blitzen”. The production is choreographed by So You Think You Can Dance’s Spencer Liff with Michael Orland serving as Musical Director (American Idol). It’s an updated version of the classic tale, Snow White, featuring family-friendly magic, a comedic twist and modern music, including Katy Perry’s “Firework”, The Village People’s “YMCA”, and Michael Jackson’s “Thriller”. A Christmas Westside Story at the Falcon Theatre: Celebrate the season with the Troubies as they bring together two classic tales, A Christmas Story and West Side Story. Somewhere in America, Ralphie wants to be Cool and get a Red Ryder BB gun for Christmas. Will his parents ever believe A Boy Like That can handle a Red Ryder? Or will Santa use One Hand, One Heart to ignore Ralphie and give a BB gun to Maria instead? Tell yourself “I Feel Pretty“, hop on a Jet and dance your way to the show Tonight! Craft Show and Sale at The Autry Store: The Autry store will have a special craft show and sale with a unique assortment of ceramic, knitted, and quilted crafts. Watch demonstrations by talented artists, and perhaps find that last-minute “perfect gift.” Sunday, 11 a.m.-4 p.m., Autry National Center, 4700 Western Heritage Way, Griffith Park
Holiday Train Ride and Visit with Santa: Santa, himself, will be on hand a the Travel Town Museum so young and old alike can tell him their Christmas wishes. Each child will receive a candy cane and a special little gift. Mrs. Claus will also be there to greet you and talk about life at the North Pole. If you wish, Santa’s helpers will happily take your picture with Santa for purchase as a keepsake of your visit. After visiting Santa you can board the Santa Express at Travel Town Station for a trip through a wonderland of holiday lights and scenery. If you prefer, you can get into the Holiday spirit by riding the Santa Express before you visit Santa. Through December 23rd. The first train leaves about 5 pm each night and the last train will leave at about 8 pm, unless we sell out, in which case we may close earlier.
