If you’re one to drive out to the Rose Bowl, Long Beach or Santa Monica  for authentic vintage finds, you’ll be happy to know that there’s finally a monthly vintage and antique show close to home  in Woodland Hills.

San Fernando Valley  residents Patrice Curedale and Lori Rotblatt are long time friends, business women, mothers, artists and fellow collectors — and the creative brains behind the  Topanga Vintage Market , which premieres this Sunday, April 22 from 8 a.m – 3 p.m. at the Westfield Promenade, and the fourth Sunday of every month.

For this first show there will be over 100 vendors with an eclectic selection of vintage wares, antiques, collectibles and upcycled art.  Some recognizable names include: Joseph Wahl, Jennifer Grey, Robert Heintz Antiques, Leah Cox/Bubba’s Antiques, Doreen Trimble/Dove Hill, Saundra Ilson/Pink Paisleys, Patty Hubbard Vintage Fashions, Marie Campuzano-Garcia/Coquilles de Mer, Deva Taffel/Vintage Cottage Interiors, Helena and Scott Baum/Circa California, Michelle Lou/Asian Furnishings, Kathleen Sterling/Two Sisters Antiques and Lester Anderson/Country Benches.

Curedale describes a vintage market as “a gathering — part of a long and colorful history where every vendor is a historian and storyteller, and the crowds come to acquire not just ‘a piece,’ but a piece of history, and to become part of the story.”

“Itʼs like casting a play with no lead roles, just pure ensemble players,” adds Rotblatt. “Every seller and every buyer is vitally important in making this not just another antique market, but a vibrant, fun-filled community event.”

The Topanga Vintage Market is also designed to act  as a fundraiser for local schools and other non-profits.  Rotblatt explains, “The fundraising has been part of our plan from the outset, because we both have  children in public school, and we see the tremendous need created by our state  budget shortfalls.”

Every month, Topanga Vintage Market will be offering fundraising booths (called “youth booths”)  to local schools and youth groups. All of  the profits from their sales of baked goods and bottled drinks, as well as vintage  items collected from their families, go straight to their non-profit.  For April 22, the groups are Topanga Elementary Charter School and the Boy Scout Troop #911 of Northridge, who will be helping with recycling and logistics in addition to selling refreshments.

Curedale, who has a background in fundraising,  says she hopes that “schools and groups will use the experience to help kids learn a few things about organizing, marketing, selling, seeing a project through, not to mention history and all that good stuff.  And we hope they make lots of money!”

Topanga Vintage Market is held the 4th Sunday of every month from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Westfield Promenade (Topanga Canyon Blvd and Oxnard St), Woodland Hills, CA.
