A little more than a year after launching The Federal Bar on Lankershim in North Hollywood—Knitting Factory Entertainment (KFE) has confirmed it will open its second eatery close by. Bow & Truss will open this summer at 11122 Magnolia Blvd. in North Hollywood. Bow & Truss features a tapas-style Latin menu, a dossier of innovative cocktails and a wide variety of craft beer. KFE’s Executive Chef consultant Shad Davis and owner Morgan Margolis have enlisted Stefhanie Meyers as Bow & Truss’ Executive Chef. Myers worked under John Sedlar at two of his restaurants—Rivera and Playa—and most recently served as Chef de Cuisine at The Federal. To date, confirmed dishes include: scallops with saffron polenta, corn/pepper salsa, piquillo sauce; and Seafood Pot with sea bass, mussels, clams, shrimp, lobster claw and potato.
Katsuya Uechi is expanding his presence in the 818 further by bringing The Izaka-ya by Katsu-ya to Sherman Oaks. It’s the third branch of the West 3rd Street and Manhattan Beach restaurants and joins Uechi’s other restaurants, Katsu-ya in Studio City and Encino. The 818 eatery will be called Little Izaka-ya by Katsu-ya, replacing Sushi Fukyo on Sepulveda just south of Ventura.
Charlie’s Pantry, the gourmet marketplace eatery that opened in Studio City just over a year ago, is opening a second location in the Beverly Glen Center south of Mulholland. According to owner Charlie Pearson, the new location will be open in approximately four months. This location will be more expansive with dinner service and a wine bar.

Over in Calabasas Commons, Toscanova opened a couple weeks ago in the old Mi Piace spot. The restaurant is owned by the Sciandri family who has opened several restaurants throughout Los Angeles since 1985, including Ago West Hollywood, Caffé Roma Beverly Hills, Sortino Brentwood, Toscanova Century City and the Juicy Bird Century City. It’s nice/casual dining with fresh Italian specialties. Sit indoors or out.
