Nesmon French Café and Marketplace has added some new menu items for summer and special deals for happy hour and parties. Throw a private party after 6 p.m. at the eatery and  get 20% off (tea parties too!).  They cater too. Come by between 3 p.m. – 6 p.m. for happy hour with prices at 20% off food and drink.  Owner Nily Yefet Shalom is adding  hummus with various choices of toppings (roasted pepper, roasted beets, garden veggies or hard boiled egg $7.95) to her menu that already includes crepes, sandwiches, salads, eggs, soups, farmer’s market entrees and patisserie desserts. In the drink department, they are blending up creative and healthy smoothies and shakes made with a choice of milk, soy milk, or juice for $5.49. Shake flavors are French Vanilla or French Chocolate. Smoothies are made with fresh fruit, including strawberry, banana, and a variation of exotic fruits, depending upon the season. Add a shot of acai, walnuts, almonds, cashew or dates for $1 extra.  Add spinach or kale for free.  Located just west of Fulton at 13333 Ventura Blvd., Sherman Oaks (818) 855-8818.

The Federal Bar is having their first Beer Dinner on June 27 from 7 p.m.-10 p.m. A six-course tasting menu has been designed by chef Stephanie Meyers to pair  with some of Firestone Walker’s favorite seasonal brews, including the DBA, Double Jack, Solace, Wookey Jack Black Rye IPA, Firestone Pale and Merkin. A representative from the Paso Robles brewery will be on hand to discuss each beer and course.  A limited amount of tickets are available at $55 per person (includes tax and gratuity). Experience a taste of France at La Frite  next week where they host a four-course wine dinner on June 25 (Sherman Oaks) and June 26 (Woodland Hills).  The price is $65 per person (including tax and tip).  Each course will be paired with a French wine. The winemaker will be on hand to answer questions.  Reservations must be made by June 23 and pre-paid at either location.

Through the end of June, the Valley Inn in Sherman Oaks is continuing their chicken specials on Sunday. For $15.95 get any chicken entrée on the menu with a garden salad and a small ice cream sundae.
