The Super Bowl is February 3 in New Orleans with the Baltimore Ravens vs the San Francisco 49ers. Where will you be? Here’s a select list of sports bars and gastropubs in the east and west San Fernando Valley if you want to take the party outside. March Madness and baseball are just around the corner, so keep this list handy for your sports viewing, beer/cocktail drinking and diverse eating pleasure.

EAST VALLEY

Barney’s Beanery — Burbank

The legend that started in West Hollywood in 1920 along Route 66, is now in the East San Fernando Valley, with indoor and outdoor seating, complete with flat screens, memorabilia and TVs at nearly every table so not a moment of game playing will be lost. The menu is enormous (they tout a 1000 choices) and covers all three meals and an array of cuisines. Frustrated with the ball game? Story Tavern — Burbank

The eat pub is named after a hardware store that was once owned by Burbank’s first mayor. The bar menu includes 20 varieties of craft beer on tap, accompanied by a selection of craft bottled beer. there’s also 12 wines on tap and four ciders. The food menu consists of seasonal comfort food choices, including burgers, satays, pasta, steak, salads and even root beer floats. Happy Hour runs from 4 p.m. – 7 p.m. daily. Tony’s Darts Away — Burbank

Tony’s is the first bottleless dive bar in L.A. with over 30 craft beers and three wines on tap. Super Bowl deal— get a bottomless pint for $20! Chow down on vegan (v) and non-vegan sausages (nv), hot buffalo-style “wings,” served with 818 valley ranch dressing (vegan), five layer dip with layers of vegan spicy bean dip, cheese (vegan or nv), tomato salsa, avocado salsa, sour cream (vegan or nv), served with fresh fried tortilla chips , Frito Pie (vegan or nv), Pozole (vegan or nv), BBQ Sliders, served on biscuits with slaw, filled with either pulled pork (nv) or jackfruit (v). Mad Bull Tavern — Sherman Oaks

It’s a sleek, open design with indoor/outdoor seating, floor to ceiling exposed brick walls, iron lamp embellishments, “mad bull” paintings, high tables and backed chairs, booths and inlaid flat screen TVs to root on your favorite team. The drink menu is extensive with over 70 beers, including craft, foreign and domestic (with 20 on tap). Exciting for the 818 is a custom cocktail menu, which includes some mixology muddled gems. Spitting Chicken Cantina – Sherman Oaks

It’s a surfer roadside cantina with a modern twist just two doors down from Mad Bull with the same kind of indoor/outdoor theme. The menu features an array of appetizers, such as quesadillas, ceviche, taquitos and queso fundido (cheese fondue with squash blossom or chorizo). Tacos, burritos and enchiladas fill the menu alongside larger entrees, such as chilaquiles, carne asada and chicken mole. Designed with rustic wood and leather banquettes, stools and slight touches of surfer decor, it’s a spirited environment — especially after a Cadillac Margarita. The Local Peasant — Sherman Oaks

This pub/restaurant has an urban feel with white tile walls and steel fixtures mixed with a combination of wood and stone. The front room hosts a large bar with wall booths and wood tables. Chalk boards list drinks written in a classic old-fashioned font. The back room is filled with large communal tables made of reclaimed wood. There are a few flat TV screens on the corner shaped bar. The food and drinks both excel here. There are more than 20 beers on tap and locally sourced wine. A specialty drink menu includes Prohibition and post prohibition themes. Pair drinks with $4 simple bar snacks like marinated olives, deviled eggs with applewood bacon smoked crisps, and warm chili lemon spice nuts — or go for menu items like Short Ribs, Fish and Chips, Burgers, Drunken Chicken or the Grilled Peach Salad. Blue Dog Tavern — Sherman Oaks

This is a cozy gastropub with an open wood frame and dog photos on walls. TVs line the bar area. There’s about 15 beers on tap and another 15 by bottle. A good selection of burgers includes the Chi Chi with a Angus patty, bacon, cheddar and a sunnyside fried egg inside a maple syrup bun. There are monthly burger specials.Salads, pizza,chili (vegan too!), calzones and a rich Mac and Cheese round out the menu. Root Beer Bourbon Ribs are prepared St. Louis style. The Draft Bar and Grill -Studio City

Once the site of a former Greek restaurant, The Draft has a Hollywood dive vibe without the huge crowds. Beer pong, flip cups, pool, karaoke, trivia night, deejay, a jukebox and flat screen TVs from every angle. The menu is typical bar food. Check the Calendar to see what’s scheduled as far as entertainment and the sports package. The Fox and Hounds — Studio City

This is a favorite place for British ex-pats mixed with locals. Traditional pub fare includes fish and chips, shepherd’s pie, banger’s and mash potatoes. Breakfast is also served all day here, including the English version of the Irish breakfast called The Full Monty. On Super Bowl Sunday, they’ll be playing a slew of games — from the Scottish Premier League, Barclays Premier League, NHL Hockey, NBA — and finally, the Super Bowl. Laurel Tavern — Studio City

It’s the gastropub that started the movement in the 818. The brick walled and wood interior is on the smaller side, but there’s two flat screens and a projector screen they pull down for big events — like the Super Bowl. There’s choice of burgers, porky belly skewers, grilled cheese, bratwurst, grilled artichoke and more. Fries can be added to any dish and that is a definite must do. River Rock Lounge at Sportsmen’s Lodge — Studio City

This retro cool restaurant/lounge has it all — sophisticated dining with gourmet food and cocktails, as well as a bar/lounge with happy hour specials, a late night menu and live entertainment on Fridays and Saturdays. For Super Bowl Sunday starting at 4 p.m., they’re having a giant tailgate buffet for $25 per person with hot chicken wings, sliders, BBQ baby back ribs, corn on the cobb, build-your-own-nachos, chili beans, cold salad buffet and desserts galore. There’s also a full bar, plus $5 Sam Adams seasonal drafts all game long, $24 Sam Adams Lager beer buckets (6 bottles), and half-price shots during halftime. The game will be aired on all flatscreen TVs with full audio, including a 60″ screen brought in just for the game. Rocco’s Tavern — Studio City

Rocco’s Tavern is a New York/Italian inspired sports bar with exposed brick walls and indoor /outdoor seating. Flat screens line every space of the interior walls, while a projector screens games on an outside wall. Week long Happy Hour runs from 3- 7 daily with 2 for 1 drinks, but no discount on appetizers. It can get quite crowded considering the place in on the smaller side, so on this big game day, get ready for close talkers — or screamers — depending on the game. There’s no other way. Spoonful Restaurant — Studio City

This Southern Dixie themed gastropub is situated in the former Henry’s Hat locale. The flat screens are still in the bar area. The menu lists classics with a twist, such as Shrimp Po-Boy, Pulled Pork Sliders, Fried Green Tomatoes and Southern Fried Chicken and Braised Short Ribs, as well as a Fruit Cobbler and Sticky Toffee Pudding for dessert. There’s also lighter options, such as Spaghetti Squash with Roasted Vegetables, Veggi Burger and Red Snapper. The libations menu includes a variety of whiskey and bourbon with a refined old school cocktail list, including Mint Julep, Brandy Crusta, Od Fashioned and Tom Collins. There’s a private party room, plus televisions in the bar area for game watching.

WEST VALLEY

LAB Brewing Co. — Agoura

Watch the Big Game on a really big 31 foot screen at this gastropub. Get into the football pools with great prizes, order from the special tailgate menu with drink specials. The menu includes: Kobe dog with chili, crab nachos, candied bacon, LAB lobster burger, spicy pepper wings, pulled pork sliders and more. The LAB is also launching their “Name the New Beer” during their Super Bowl Party. Ladyface Ale — Agoura

The European style brasserie/pub has its own microbrewery that produces award-winning ales. There’s also American craft beer on tap, fine wines, American ales and European imports, along with a menu French and Belgian inspired small plates and large dishes, such as mussels and frites, croque madame, duck confit and more. Sit inside and watch games on the flat screens or sit outside facing the eatery’s namesake ,Ladyface Mountain. Sagebrush Cantina — Calabasas

It’s the Annual Tailgate Party and BBQ in the party tent at this west valley institution starting at 2:30 p.m. There’s a barbecue buffet with taco bar, tri-tip, chicken, roast beef and more. Watch the game on large hi-def TVs . Drink specials will also be available. Free Coor glasses while supplies last. Reservations are advised. Salt — Calabasas

There’s three flat screens to watch the game in this new restaurant located in a strip mall on Agoura Road. At the helm is owner/chef David Iino, formerly the executive chef of Napa Valley Grill in Westwood and Cafe Del Rey in Marina Del Rey. SALT has a rustic, yet modern design with a menu that includes Wild Mushroom Mac and Cheese, Lobster Fried Rice, Brisket, Hamburger Helper (mushrooms and orecchiette pasta), Korabuta Pork Chop and Kobe Beef Potstickers. There’s a stand-out kids menu with grilled chicken, salmon saute and a mini-version of the mac n’ cheese. Sweeten things up with S’mores, Creamsicle, Salt Banana and Bread Pudding. The Rack — Woodland Hills

Soup’s Grill and Sports Bar — Woodland Hills

Owned and operated by Milwaukee Brewers pitcher and San Fernando Valley native Jeff Suppan and his wife, Dana, Soup’s is a place that’s okay for kids too. There’s state-of –the –art digital sound, Busch Stadium seats, huge baseball mitt chairs and memorabilia that fills the walls along with hi def flat screens. An extensive menu from bar food to full course entrees is available, including Top Sirloin and Chicken Marsala. The White Harte Pub — Woodland Hills

This traditional British pub has five flat screens for game viewing.
