The Weekend Cocktail: Spring Fling Strawberry Basil Margarita

This week spring has sprung and as we start preparing for seasonal celebrations the flavors of March are fresh, fragrant and alive.  Enjoy this cocktail with your friends as you bask in the beauty of the garden. Cheers!

Spring Fling Strawberry Basil Margarita

9 strawberries

6 basil leaves

Juice of 1 lime

2 ounces Basil Simple Syrup (recipe follows)

2 ounces Tequila Gold

1 ounce Cointreau

1 ounce Maraschino liqueur

Garnish: Lime wheel and basil leaf

In a shaker, muddle the strawberries, basil, and limejuice with the basil simple syrup. Add the remaining ingredients and fill with ice. Shake vigorously and strain into two margarita glasses filled with fresh ice. Garnish with a strawberry or lime wheel and additional basil leaf.

Basil Simple Syrup

1 cup of sugar

1/2 cup of water

1/2 cup of washed basil leaves

In a small saucepan combine sugar, water and basil. Bring to a simmer on medium heat, stirring occasionally, until sugar has dissolved. Remove from heat. Let the syrup cool completely and pour through a fine sieve into a jar. Makes 1 cup.
