Julian Coryell, son of legendary Jazz guitarist Larry Coryell, returns to Vitello’s Jazz and Supper Club in Studio City on Wednesday, June 12, 2013, this time with a quartet comprised of some of the most-respected musicians in the Los Angeles Jazz scene including Matt Rohde, piano (American Idol), Edwin Livingston, bass, and Andy Sanesi, drums.
Those fortunate enough to have caught his debut performance there in April were understandably impressed by his musicianship, but also stunned by his vocal abilities, inspiring him to add more vocals to the set this time and perhaps even a few of his own thoughtful pop/rock compositions. David Paich of “Toto” remarked: These guys are sick! My new favorite band.
Mr. Coryell is a much sought-after session payer, touring musician and record producer working with artists such as Dave Brubeck, Billy Cobham, Madeleine Peyroux, Jewel, Leonard Cohen, Carole King, Aimee Mann, Michael Penn and Alanis Morrissette on her recent world tour. A masterful guitar player who skillfully navigates his way around any genre, Julian is also a soulful singer/songwriter.. But, what truly sets him apart from any other artist is that, like his father, Julian is a virtuoso Jazz musician whose skills on the guitar may be unmatched.

To date, the youngest graduate of the Berklee College of Music, Julian is well-versed in all styles of music and once garnered simultaneous Jazz and Pop label deals. His catalog includes four Jazz records including a collaboration with his father and younger brother, Murali, and another with fellow sons of legendary Jazz musicians, Karma Auger and Nicklas Sample, five pop records and a concept album on which he sings in Japanese, inspired during the time he spent there touring with popular Japanese pop artist, Kazuya Yoshii.
Whether playing one of his own Jazz arrangements of popular songs like Seattle grunge rockers, Soundgarden’s, Black Hole Sun, or stunning you with his bravura guitar work on one of his own compositions, or gently crooning a standard like Autumn Leaves, it is rare to find an artist, today, with such depth and versatility.
