On March 15, 2013, Sportsmen’s Lodge Events Center is proud to announce special guests — The Mills Brothers on The Johnny Holiday Program — which will take place in the majestic Empire Ballroom.

Guests will be transported back in time in the Sportsmen’s Lodge style of “old school cool with a new cool vibe” featuring Johnny’s retro style Big Band with amazing singers, dancers and other performances, a gourmet three course dinner, full no-host bar and dancing.  The monthly series kicked off with a special Valentine’s Day Program on February 15th.

The musical and visual extravaganza is hosted by Johnny Holiday with his special guest,  The Mills Brothers – starring John Mills with Elmer Hopper and always featuring the Dean Mora Orchestra along with the Satin Dollz Pin Up Dancers, the lovely Christine Nelson, and the talented Adam Tunney.

John Mills had performed with his father, Donald Mills – the last surviving original – since 1982, and now brings to the stage the newest generation of The Mills Brothers.  The new duo includes and highlights the beautiful voice and compelling stage presence of the talented Elmer Hopper, who spent 21 years with the renowned Platters.  Honored with a Grammy for Lifetime Achievement in 1998, The Mills Brothers’ harmonies and unmistakable repertoire of hits still symbolize a legendary tradition to a new millennium of audiences.

Johnny Holiday stated, “Did you know that The Mills Brother’s and Uncle Bing were great friends for over 50 years and made history with numerous top charting recordings.  Bing loved their sound and Donald, Harry and Herbert loved his. When they got together to wax a record, appear together on radio  before 50 million listeners or appeared on television together it was pure magic and how fitting that one of their first records together was “Dinah” in December of 1931, a song they did again in March of 1977, just 7 months before Bing left us. Bing appeared for The Mills Brothers 50th anniversary in show business and the appeared on Bing’s televised 50 year celebration.  “

He continues by saying, “Working with John Mills and Elmer Hopper is a joy because they keep you on your toes and make great music together.  They have sustained a great legacy and I am always honored to work with this fine performers.  In my book, they are legend!”

A legend in his own right, Johnny Holiday has performed with legends such as Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughn, Jerry Vale, Dick Haymes, Nancy Wilson, Johnnie Ray, Eddie Fisher, Don Cherry, John Gary, Tony Martin, Frankie Laine, Mel Torme and many more.

The monthly program promises to always feature Johnny’s swinging Big Band with amazing singers, dancers and other performances.

“Our February debut of the Johnny Holiday Program was an exciting success, and just the beginning! We are delighted to offer our guests such a rich opportunity for dining, dancing and great entertainment, all in one shiny package. We look forward to welcoming veteran fans as well as new faces for this fantastic monthly destination,” declares The Sportsmen’s Lodge Events Center General Manager, Laurence Whiting.
